UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Italy (ITPO Italy) assists SMEs in developing countries and economies in transition by offering ad-hoc support services, fostering industrial cooperation and business partnerships with Italian companies, associations and institutions.
Since 2018, UNIDO ITPO Italy and Friuli Venezia Region are nurturing their consolidated collaboration strategy with the project, named: “Innovation Bridge Trieste – Dubai 2020”. This initiative envisages a wide spectrum of activities aimed at linking the Region with Expo Dubai 2020 “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. More specifically, the project is expected to create a network of regional, national and international innovators from industries and both private and public research institutes in order to identify innovative ideas for an inclusive and sustainable economic development.
Our Office is profoundly convinced that promoting collaboration opportunities and technology and know-how transfer at the entrepreneurial level can play a key role not only to improve productivity, but also to spread innovation globally. As a result, acting in this sense means taking a decisive step forward towards the achievement of the 17 global objectives of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, UNIDO ITPO Italy’s vital beacon.

The COVID-19 pandemic will have far-reaching and long-term effects on populations and economies worldwide. Besides its immediate impact on health, the socioeconomic consequences of the pandemic are likely to be felt by economic actors over the world, and the populations of developing countries and economies in transition are expected to be among those most vulnerable to suffer from COVID-19-related challenges.
The Global Call was aimed at identifying “Innovative Ideas and Technologies vs. COVID-19 and beyond”, namely scalable solutions to cope with the direct and indirect impact of COVID-19 in developing countries and economies in transition, and their respective needs in the transition to post-crisis socioeconomic realities in the aftermath of the pandemic.
The Global Call offered an opportunity at international level to identify and promote innovative solutions contributing to tackle COVID-19 effects in developing countries and make their economies more resilient, in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The initiative, inspired by ITPO Italy, was promoted by UNIDO – United Nations Industrial Development Organization – through its network of ITPOs, Investment and Technology Promotion Offices around the world.
